If it ain’t broke (or lacking in features you NEED) don’t fix it. Overall, for recording and for editing and multitrack mixing/mastering, I think with just a few exceptions, they all do about the same things, with some subtle differences in features. More music composition than VO or production. Also Cubase and Cakewalk, but they seemed like a less intuitive ‘foreign language’ compared to AA.

I’ve demoed Pro Tools (expensive for negligible improvement over AA) with a huge learning curve. I’m old school…buy the software, don’t pay monthly rent on it. I don’t like the idea of the subscription/cloud based CC versions that Adobe lives off of now. I can’t think of a reason to switch to another DAW, especially given that I would have to relearn all the tricks and shortcuts I use with AA. The AA plug-ins are quite good, but I also use Waves Diamond plug-ins, which are stellar. Simple, intuitive, and the effects rack is excellent. It does everything I need, and more, and I have no ‘cons’ to report. I’ve had it for at least 8 years I believe. Rafe Sampson, Sampson Media Inc.: I use Adobe Audition 3.0 for multitrack editing. Using because I know Pro Tools, and if it ain't broke. Love the little improvements like super-fast mp.3 ripper and gain function right on the audio graphic. I especially like the spectral view for removing mouth noises and other unwanted sounds without affecting the surrounding audio.ĬJ Goodearl: Way overkill for VO work and light production but using and love Pro Tools 12.3 for about 5 months. It pretty much does everything I need it to do. I'm comfortable with AA CS5.5 and see no need to switch to anything else.

I upgrade to Adobe Auditon 3.0 several years later and to CS5.5 when I made the move to the Mac Mini about 4 years ago. I like it, but decided to change in 2001 or 2002 to something more common (in the world of radio), Cool Edit Pro.

Then I moved on to Vegas Pro, which is the multi track companion to Sony Soundforge. From the Roland I moved on to another Roland (The VS 880). I can't remember the model, but it was a big rack mount unit that was built like a tank. The first "digital" system I used was a Roland back in the mid 90s. John Weeks, John Weeks Voiceovers: I currently use Adobe Audition CS5.5 on my Mac Mini.

Q It Up: How long have you been using your current multi-track audio editing program? Which one is it and why did you choose this one? What version are you using? For you, what are the pros and cons of your DAW? Have you worked with other programs? What did you like/dislike about them? Would you like to switch to another DAW? What other editing software do you use - a separate one for 2-track editing perhaps? Please add any other comments you might have on the subject.

I would be surprised if it ticked far enoguh off to drift noticeably (more than a frame, in other words) from the start of a set to the end of a set, but worst case scenario is that you end up splicing the audio between songs.Q It Up: How long have you been using your current multi-track audio editing program? So the only real issue is whether your audio interface is ticking at precisely the right frequency or not. The audio from the camcorder is "locked" to the video by virtue of the mechanism, so the NLE (non-linear editor) software does compensation for errors in the length of its audio (which can happen on some camcorders that use a separate crystal), but the video is going to be a very precise length. I've done the same thing lately with unmatched digital camcorders from different manufacturers. They'd still be within a frame or so by the end of a two hour show. I used to do video work and we'd take two VCRs and roll them, then find a key frame for synchronization, back up that many frames, ad roll them in parallel and do a "live" post mix. Frame rates of camcorders are incredibly consistent.
